Coatings Division Receives AS9100B Standard Accreditation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
VAC AERO’s Coatings Plant Receives its AS9100B Standard Accreditation

Boucherville, Quebec (November 21, 2007) – After conducting an assessment of VAC AERO’s management system to the requirements of the AS 9100B standard, Intertek Testing Services NA, Ltd. has recommended VAC AERO for the AS9100 certification which was delivered to the Boucherville facility last week.

The aircraft and aerospace industries are quickly embracing AS9100 as a means of improving quality and on-time delivery within their supply chain. Public demand for safety and reliability drives the need for product quality to approach near perfection. The only way to work towards perfection is to work through continuous improvement. Quality management systems in conjunction with third party audits are integral to continuous improvement.

Certification to the AS9100 standard provides:

•  Qualification to be considered as an aerospace supplier

•  Public recognition

•  Internal validation

•  Independent feedback to foster continual improvement

Differences Between AS9100 and AS9100 Rev. B

AS9100 Rev A contained both ISO9001/2, 1994 and ISO9001:2000. Each of these base-standards were present until ISO9001/2, 1994 expired in December of 2003. Once this standard expired, AS9100 was reissued as Rev B and the only difference was that references to ISO9001/2, 1994 were removed. In addition, as part of an AS9100 Rev B certification audit, a numerical scoring of the audit results is required. This is defined in the AS9101 rev. B checklist document.

Most of the major aircraft engine manufacturers are requiring their suppliers to be certified to AS9100.
